After 30 years in the Entertainment & Touring Industry, like all of us I found myself lost in March when COVID hit..... thankfully I was introduced to an opportunity to go back to "school" for a new interim career as a financial advisor with SLD Financial until our gypsy life & concerts are allowed again. 

I believe the quote from Kevin Christopher was - "Come on Cheryl, what else have you got to do?  You might as well try this!" & he was right.  This new path gave me a reason to get up in the morning & focus on something productive.  As we gained the knowledge we realized how much of this information was lacking in our own community and "No Roadie Left Behind" was born.... Our goal is to impart the knowledge & education that we have gained to as many of our touring family & friends as we can. 

In the words of Naval Ravikant – There are 3 things in Life, Your Health, Your Mission and the People You Love – That’s It – Protecting all of us & our families is so important.  Planning for our financial futures is important.  Making your dreams into reality.... also important! 

There are so many things we could all have in place to alleviate many of the hardships we currently face – tools to help us create an emergency fund or help in the event that you OR a loved one become ill.  You could be building revenue streams for the future & your retirement. 

I've learned so much in these last 4 months, things that had I known about many years ago, would have changed my life when I was diagnosed with cancer in 2017. The Goal with No Roadie Left Behind is to pay it forward & ensure that all of you are aware of your options BEFORE you need them & help all our touring brothers & sisters, family & friends to prepare now just in case we are ever faced with anything like this again.  We will help you with a custom plan, the dream map to your future....

The above quote from Oprah Winfrey gives me pause to reflect on how I began this new adventure in life. Prior to Covid-19, I spent the last 20+ years in the entertainment industry; the last 16 as a touring lighting designer. I always believed that every moment that occurred in my life led me up to the many great artists I have been privileged to work with and the many amazing places I have gotten to see. 

As I was creeping up on my 50th birthday, I was beginning to look for a more permanent gig in a more permanent location. With the intention of leaving the road for good, I posted my resume to a job search site in February. What I never expected was a call from SLD Financial. My experience made me a good fit for navigating the business; the financial training would be something the company would help me develop. I took advantage of the opportunity on a part-time basis with the intent to develop while keeping my commitments to three productions until the end of the year. I never imagined all of those productions would cancel within a matter of weeks.

With the availability of time and the need to explore a new option for earning a living, I took advantage of the opportunity SLD Financial had to offer on a full-time basis. This gave me an opportunity to become financially educated for myself with the intention of taking my newly learned knowledge and passing it on to others. At SLD, their motto is No Family Left Behind. It was from this philosophy that, in solidarity with Cheryl Hall and Tim “Quake” Mark, together, we developed our own philosophy of No Roadie Left Behind. It is our mission to offer free financial education to our industry colleagues and to ensure the security of our friends’ and their families’ financial future. There are countless examples of road personnel living with the idea that they are invincible, with no plan for the future. We stand by a different idea. That idea is that the reason we were chosen by this opportunity was to make it our undying crusade and be certain that no roadie is left behind!
